Some Biochemical Parameters and Hematological Picture in Cases of Smooth Inactive Ovaries in Buffalo-Cows

Emad Mahmoud Abd El Razek, Tamer Salah Allam.

Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the difference in biochemical parameters and hematological picture between smooth inactive ovaries (SIO) and normal cyclic buffalo-cows. The study was carried out on forty adult Buffalo-cows with ages ranging from 4-7 years in different cities of Menofiya Governorate during the period from September 2014 till September 2015. Animals were classified into cyclic or non-cyclic based on gynecological examination by rectal palpation and trans-rectal ultrasonography. The first group was consisted of thirty female buffaloes affected with smooth inactive ovaries (SIO) and the second group was consisted of ten normal cyclic Buffalo-cows (C). Blood samples were collected for biochemical and hematological studies of both groups. The biochemical parameters revealed that, there was a significant decrease in RBCs (7.44±0.21 and 5.19±0.27), Hb (14.37±0.31 and 11.17±0.27) and PCV (43.11±0.78 and 31.33±2.52), while there was a significant increase in TLC (6.46±0.56 and 10.34±0.87), neutrophil (3.49±0.42 and 5.42±1.25), eosinophil (0.18±0.14 and 0.61±0.08) and lymphocyte (2.41±0.35 and 3.85±0.89) in normal cyclic and SIO groups respectively. While the hematological picture revealed that, there was a significant decrease in total protein (7.33±0.64 and 5.28 ± 0.20), albumin (4.42±0.37 and 3.20±0.24), globulin (2.88±0.28 and 2.08±0.34), glucose (102.42±7.45 and 53.03±8.47), creatinine (1.67±0.14 and 1.24±0.06), calcium (11.27±1.04 and 6.54±0.63) and inorganic phosphorous (4.77±0.45 and 2.76±0.20) in normal cyclic and SIO groups respectively. Also, the hormonal assay revealed that, there was a significant decrease in FSH (4.32±0.21 and 1.85 ± 0.02) and progesterone (2.54±0.88 and 1.72±0.34) in normal cyclic and SIO groups respectively. So that the cases of smooth inactive ovaries in buffalo-cows were characterized by an increase in TLC, neutrophil, eosinophil and lymphocyte and a decrease in RBCs, Hb, PCV, total protein, albumin, globulin, glucose, creatinine, calcium, inorganic phosphorous, FSH and progesterone.

Key words: Biochemical, hematological, smooth ovaries, buffalo-cows
