  • Abstract
Antibiotic resistance has become an increasingly global health problem. Therefore; this study was conducted for isolation and identification of Multi Drug Resistant bacteria affecting shrimp ponds and detection of their ability to form biofilm. A total number of 250 cultured shrimp samples were collected and subjected to bacteriological examination. The bacterial isolates were identified morphologically, biochemically by conventional methods and confirmed by VITEK 2 system and MALDI-TOF (MS). The isolated bacteria include Vibrio alginolyticus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aeromonas hydrophila, Shewanella algae, Shewanella putrefaciens as Gram negative, while Staphylococcus aureus as Gram positive bacteria. These bacterial isolates were subjected to antibiotic sensitivity testing using disc diffusion technique against 10 to 11 antimicrobial agents. Biofilm binding activity was tested for the isolated pathogens. and relationship between Antibiotic resistance and bilofilm formation was found as following; strong biofilm formation in Gram-negative bacteria was found related to resistance against TL (15μg) then CTX (30μg), AMC (30μg), CL (30μg) and SXT (25μg) and by very low extend to CN (10μg), DO (30μg),O (30μg) and C (30μg).Strong biofilm forming Staph. aureus isolates were found mainly resistant to SXT (25μg), TL (15μg), CTX (30μg) and AMC (30μg) followed by resistance to CL (30μg), P 10μg and SAM 20μg and by lesser extent to DO 30μg.

Key words: Shrimp. MDR bacteria. Antibiotic resistance. Biofilm
