Abstract
Bovine metritis is a severe uterine inflammation occurring within 21 days postpartum, drastically reducing dairy herd fertility, milk yield, and overall economic profitability. Conducted from November 2024 to February 2025 at a commercial dairy herd under Egyptian subtropical conditions, this ethically approved study evaluated 247 multiparous Holstein cows. Animals diagnosed with clinical metritis were randomly assigned to eight treatment groups. The experimental design was to test standard doses of: Excede, Gentamox, Cobactan, Synulox, Penstrip, Amoxicillin, Borgal, and Gentacure. Statistical comparisons demonstrated that Excede yielded the highest efficacy, achieving a 96.9% cure rate, minimal days open (90.88 ± 3.01days), and a 41.3% conception rate from the first insemination. Gentamox closely followed as a highly effective alternative (89.2% cure rate; 99.90 ± 3.32 days open). Cobactan maintained high pregnancy rates (80.0% total conception) with a minimal milk withdrawal window, whereas Synulox, Penstrip, and Amoxicillin showed moderate efficiency. Conversely, Borgal and Gentacure performed poorly, displaying the lowest cure rates (71.4% and 50.0%) and prolonged days open, proving less practical due to extended withdrawal restrictions.

Key words: metritis, antibiotics, postpartum, Holstein cattle
